Enjoying a large cup of black coffee this AM while I study and write stuff (like this post). The coffee ban has been temporarily lifted during the triathlon recovery period (about a week). I think abstaining from coffee for the 2 months prior to the race helped - I was then able to take advantage of the well-demonstrated performance-enhancing benefits of caffeine that were unavailable to me when I was habitually drinking coffee. I had 2 cups of coffee at the hotel the morning of the race, and enjoyed a couple espressos on Monday. Now I am having more black coffee. Delicious! But a rare treat for me now.
