Today we toured Nagasaki, taking in the principal atomic bomb-related memorials, including the Peace Park, the nearby Atomic Bomb Hypocenter (the place exactly above which the bomb actually exploded), and the Atomic Bomb Museum. Not exactly the "lightest" content, but significant stuff to see, for sure. You will have to make the trip yourself to see these things - I can't do it for you virtually today.
After that we had a train ride for a couple hours, culminating with almost losing John's coat - it fell between the train and the platform when we were getting off, but the thing was we didn't really see it fall, so we thought it might have still been on the train, and we were trying to get the workers to check the train, and it was really hard because they didn't speak much English...eventually I looked over the platform edge on a whim and saw it about 100m down from where we were frantically coordinating with the JR workers. They had this nifty "reach arm" to pick it up with - no need for a person to have to hop down there. All's well that ends well!
Boat ride tomorrow! Hope the seas are calm.
